  • How long have you been a runner?
I’ve been running since 2019, when I started running with the RAW running group in Austin, TX.

Training tip for other runners:
Consistency is key, do not worry if a workout or two don’t go as planned, with a consistent approach, the results will show on race day.

Race day tip for other runners:
Remember to fuel and rest the days leading up to the race and the morning of the race. Ensure your body is ready to go, then relax your mind and enjoy the run on race morning!

Training tip for other runners:
There are so many tips I could give, but overall, I’d say consistency, not making excuses and enjoying the process, is the most important tip I could give. You have to consistently work at your goal, to be the best you can be.

Race day tip for other runners:
Time and organization. Make sure race day bag is packed and race clothes are laid out. Give yourself time in the morning to wake up, eat something light, get to the start, park, warm up, use rest room and take in a deep breath! Nothing is worse than getting to the start line frazzled and rushed before the gun goes off.

Ben Cooper

Training tip for other runners:
Go slow to go fast

Race day tip for other runners:
Do not forget to enjoy yourself and enjoy the experience.

Training tip for other runners:
Get out the door, as soon as you get out the door it is easy.

Race day tip for other runners:
Buy a new pair of your favorite socks.

Maria Rowe

Training tip for other runners:
Some runs might feel amazing, and some might not. Enjoy the good runs and do the best you can on the runs when it’s a struggle to hit your paces

Race day tip for other runners:
Don’t try anything new on race day! Practice your fueling on training runs and stick to your fueling plan during your race.

  • How long have you been a runner?
I’ve been running since 7th grade cross country 15 years ago. I was inconsistent after high school, but the last few years have seen running become the most important part of my life. It’s also part of my job, too, as I coach hs cross country and track.

Training tip for other runners:

The most pivotal change I’ve made in my training is the incorporation of the faster long run. As long as you do recovery days really intentionally and include general maintenance runs in your training, it can be very helpful to let it rip a bit on your long runs. Get yourself use to running closer to your goal race pace.

Race day tip for other runners:
Avoid rituals and crutches. You’ve done the training, you’re ready. You don’t need that lucky pair of socks or to eat the exact perfect meal exactly x amount of hours before the race. Trust yourself and the work you’ve put in and let the training speak for itself!

Andrew Leahey

Training tip for other runners:
Always know where the bathrooms are, and always keep backup toilet paper in your car! Unless you don’t mind bushes and sacrificing a sock.

Race day tip for other runners:
“Your attitude leading up to the start will determine a lot how you will race. Positive/ healthy thoughts will translate well. Negative/ harmful thoughts will effect your mental toughness.

It’s okay to be nervous or scared, that can translate to excitement if you are in a healthy mindset. However if you are telling people you are going to run terrible or just being negative in general (weather, nutrition, something not going right) that kind of predetermines how you may actually do.”

Training tip for other runners:
The hardest part is staying healthy. Mixing in cross training – hiking, biking, swimming is a great way to maintain your fitness but to relieve some of the stress from constant running.

Race day tip for other runners:
Come with a good attitude and expect some curveballs.

  • How long have you been a runner?
“I’ve been running for 16 years. My love for running began my sophomore year of high school when I joined cross country.
Cross country is where I found my community; a place to dream up goals with others, push myself to the limits, and enjoy the outdoors.”

Training tip for other runners:
Run slower on the easy days that way you’re able to really work on the workout days. Getting your body to slow down can be tough at times especially the fitter you get.

Race day tip for other runners:
It’s okay to be scared/nervous. Because being scared is an opportunity to be brave.

Training tip for other runners:
Easy days should be easy, and hard days should be hard. Pro runners will run easy runs between 8-12 min pace, so there’s no reason why we should run easy runs at 7min pace.

Race day tip for other runners:
Get to the race at least 60-90 minutes before the start to give yourself enough time to use the bathroom, warm up, check a bag, etc.

    I’ve been a runner since 2016.

Training tip for other runners:

Race day tip for other runners:

Sara Dietz

Training tip for other runners:
Keep showing up! If you keep showing up and continue to put in the work on a consistent basis, your training will progress.

Race day tip for other runners:
Be patient and prepared! I like to take a look at the course before a race so that I know what to expect, and I always try to develop a race plan that starts out conservative. For me, building into a race slowly boosts my confidence and keeps me engaged!

Elizabeth Laseter

  • How long have you been a runner?
I ran track in high school and college, and have continued to run competitively since then. Currently, I train with Bat City Track Club in Austin.

Find a training partner! It’s so much easier to push through a hard run or workout with someone else by your side.
