How long have you been a runner?
I started running as an 8th grader! However, I took I brief break 2 years ago to recover from some surgical procedures. I am back better than ever.
Training tip for other runners:
-Easy miles are just as important as the hard
-Give yourself 30 minutes after every run to properly recover with rolling, stretch and ice. This does sadly mean you may need to wake up earlier
-Make it apart of your routine. It can’t be a “when I want to” hobby
-Despite making it part of the routine, have fun with it! Find friends, join clubs and explore the running community.
Race day tip for other runners
-SLEEP try your best get 8 hours the full week building up
-Don’t overdue the preparation. If you are not used to rolling or icing your legs avoid excessive use the night before or day of
-If possible attempt a time trial of sorts at least a month before the race. This will race confidence and help you understand what pace is manageable
-Once the race starts, breathe breathe breathe. Stay calm, relax and find your comfortable pace.

How long have you been a runner?
I started running in August of 2021 when I moved to Austin from complete scratch, I couldn’t run more than a mile at a time and have found a lot of personal success in consistency over-time having no background in sports or running. Since then, I’ve ran 4 marathons with a best of 2:53:56 at the Austin Marathon in 2024 (running it again this year for my 5th marathon), and have participated in the TransRockies, 6 day multi-stage trail race spanning 120 miles in Colorado as well as other local races in Austin.
Training tip for other runners:
Consistency is everything, start slowly, log miles, and build mileage with patience. Run a lot of your miles easy, remove your ego from your pace, and realize that these things take time, and that gains happen over large periods of time.
Race day tip for other runners
No changes! Prepare the same as you do for training days, also have your best music ready for your journey to the start, I recommend Shadowplay by Joy Division, Age of Consent by New Order, or 4EEVER by Clairo. A large aspect of running is the mental state as well, recognize the goals you have in mind but give yourself grace to fall short of those, at the end of the day, just finishing these things is a feat in itself worth celebrating, even if we don’t meet our goal, the process of training, following through, and completing is reward in itself.

Training tip for other runners:
Save the all-out efforts for race day. Consistency makes a runner great, and you can’t be consistent if you’re burned out or injured. I would pick 10% undertrained but feeling healthy on the start line than 1% overtrained but a little beat up every single time.
Race day tip for other runners
You’re going to hurt, but you get to decide if you suffer. The opportunity to test your limits is the reward for the months and years of training it took to get there, so don’t be afraid to embrace the pain.

How long have you been a runner?
I starting running for my middle school in the 8th grade so I’ve gotten fairly familiar with the sport over the years!
Training tip for other runners:
1. Consistency Over Intensity: Build a solid base by running regularly at an easy pace.
2. Incorporate Speed Work: Add intervals, tempo runs, and strides to improve speed and endurance.
3. Strength Training: Focus on core and lower body to prevent injuries.
4. Recovery is Key: Prioritize rest days, sleep, and proper nutrition.
5. Progress Gradually: Increase mileage or intensity by no more than 10% per week.
Race day tip for other runners
1. Stick to Routine: Avoid trying new foods, gear, or pacing strategies.
2. Hydration & Nutrition: Practice fueling during long runs and follow the same plan on race day.
3. Pace Smart: Start conservatively and pick up the pace in the second half.
4. Gear Check: Lay out everything the night before, including bib, shoes, and snacks.
5. Warm Up: Dynamic stretches and light jogging help loosen muscles.

How long have you been a runner?
I have been running over 23 years now. I remember trying out for the track team in middle school and being told I could be a helper, after that running always intimidated me. I didn’t find my real passion for running until after college.
Training tip for other runners:
Consistency is crucial. As a busy mom and a runner, I understand that not every training run will be perfect. However, just showing up is often the biggest challenge. If I can consistently put in the miles, I’m confident I’ll perform well on race day.
Race day tip for other runners
Have a race day plan, but stay flexible. Before the race, map out your strategy, including pacing, hydration, and nutrition. Be ready to adjust if things don’t go as expected. Trust your training and adapt as needed to stay on track.
