AUSTIN, Texas – Jan. 19, 2014 – Crisp temperatures and sunny skies welcomed thousands of runners across the 3M Half Marathon finish line Sunday morning. Austin local, Erik Stanley, age 28, finished first with a time of 1 hour, 6 minutes and 38 seconds (1:06:38). The University of Texas alumnus ran the 13.1 mile event at a steady pace of 5:05:00 per mile. Stanley used the event to prepare for the Austin Marathon on Feb. 16, which is an Olympic qualifying event for the 2016 games in Rio de Janeiro. Austin local, Matthew Lowe, 24, crossed the finish line less than a minute behind Stanley with a time of 1:07:29. Rory Tunningley, 24 and from Dale, Texas, finished third with a time of 1:08:21. The event record stands at 1:01:05, held by Martin Fagan, set in 2009.

On Sunday, January 19, 2014, thousands of runners, volunteers and Austinites will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 3M Half Marathon, an annual “Austin favorite” race with a net-downhill 13.1 mile course. Voted “Best Road Race” by Austin Fit Magazine in 2014 and a “Top Destination Half Marathon” by Runner’s World this year, the 3M Half Marathon expects to celebrate its biggest year yet.

The 3M Half Marathon will host its annual Health and Fitness Expo on Friday, Jan. 17, and Saturday, Jan. 18. This year’s Expo commemorates the 20th anniversary of the 3M Half Marathon and will provide the Austin community an opportunity to visit with health and fitness exhibitors. Race participants from across the nation will attend and pick up official race packets, which include race bibs with timing devices, official race T-shirts and the eagerly anticipated 3M goodie bags, filled with a variety of fun and useful 3M products.
